Equus (again!)
Mar. 2nd, 2007 05:54 amFinally got some time on line to read the reviews and watch the interviews after the opening night of Equus. Not entirely sure why I'm so fascinated with this. Reviews generally positive about cast, less so about play and its psychological basis. All the interviews seem to be different cuts of the same CNN one. Was astonished when the CNN person asked to touch Daniel Radcliffe's beard. Such a weird and intrusive thing to do. Touching someone's face, in fact stroking his cheek in effect, is such a very intimate thing to have a complete stranger do to you. It's like if you're famous then people do think they own you - journalists as well as mad fans. Actually it reminds me a bit of being pregnant, when suddenly the whole world thinks it's ok to rub your belly! People get really aggrieved if you refuse and most don't even ask - or like the CNN guy they ask at the same time as doing so that you have no chance to object.
Also was disappointed to discover that the story about Richard Griffiths having to leave the theatre through a window to escape the baying mob of Radcliffe fangirls wasn't true. As a very fat person myself I don't wish to mock him for his girth but it did conjure up a fantastic mental image!
Was disappointed though that nobody seems to have asked what I most want to know since reading
quiet_lucidity's review - does he really smoke? I think in the interview he says he 'lights up a cigarette'. I really couldn't care less if Bill Clinton inhaled, but this I want to know.
