"I've been thinking," Draco said, as he stirred his coffee, "about you and me." He grimaced. "Us."
Harry suddenly wished that he hadn't eaten quite so much dinner, as it threatened to make an unwelcome return.
Draco was still concentrating on his cup, not looking at Harry. "I was going to ask you to marry me, but I decided to save myself the heartbreak of you turning me down."
"Yes," Harry gasped.
"What?" Draco finally looked up.
"Yes," Harry repeated. "Yes yes yes. Ask me, and I'll say yes." Harry beamed at Draco, his heart pounding madly.
"Well," Draco teased, "if you're quite sure." He stood up and took a small jewellers box from his robe pocket, before sliding fluidly to one knee. He opened the box and held it out towards Harry. "Harry, will you marry me?" he asked simply.
Harry stared at the enormous diamond and found that he couldn't speak.
Draco frowned. "Do you want a moment to think about it?" he said, a note of irritation creeping into his voice.
Harry shook his head.
"No?" Draco exclaimed, drawing back. The ring box shut with a loud snap. Draco glared at Harry.
"No, no! I mean yes!" Harry burst out. He took a deep breath. "I mean, no, I don't need to think about it. Of course I'll marry you."
Draco rolled his eyes but slid the engagement ring onto Harry's finger. Draco got to his feet, brushing at his robes. "I'm too old to be kept kneeling on hard floors while you mess me around, Potter," he grumbled.
Harry just grinned at him. "I love you, Draco," he said.
Draco shook his head, but returned the smile. "And I love you," he said softly. "And I always will."
