As Draco took one last, deep breath, the executioner raised his wand, and then lowered it again. There were sounds of a kerfuffle outside the chamber.

"Can you ask them to keep it down out there?" he asked irritably. "I'm trying to concentrate here." He shook his head, muttering, "How I'm supposed to work with all that racket..."

Draco felt rather hysterical. Dear God, he thought, only I could get an executioner with artistic temperament.

The noise increased, someone was shouting. Suddenly, the chamber door burst open and Harry staggered in, clutching a scroll. "Stop," he panted. "Stop."

He bent over, hands on knees, struggling for breath. He waved the scroll at the nearest auror, who took it, gingerly.

"Sentence," Harry gasped,"commuted. Minister's orders."

The auror handed the scroll to his superior, who studied it closely, then turned to Draco. "Your lucky day, Mr Malfoy." She waved her want and Draco's shackles vanished. He stumbled over to Harry, rubbing his wrists.

"Shit, Potter," he whispered, as they made a hurried exit,"that was cutting it a bit fine."

"I know," Harry agreed, leading the way out into the sunshine. "It took Hermione forever to forge Kingsley's seal."
