Soul Food on Radio 4
Sep. 21st, 2010 03:20 pmI was listening to this in the car on the way home. It's not a cooking programme, it was about Foure's Requiem. The music was played in the background throughout and then over it people spoke about what the piece meant to them and how it had affected them, when they'd used it and also some info and explanation about the composition and Foure himself.
It was incredibly moving. One of the contributors was the widow of an army bomb disposal expert who had been killed on the last day of his tour in Afghanistan. She was so courageous and stoical and spoke so warmly about her husband, and his job and his funeral, and why she had included the Requiem in it. I cried. And I'd like to tell you that it was uplifting and wonderful, but all I feel is sad.
