The long and rambling post

On Monday I went to the dentist and although I didn't need anything done he kindly told me that my 25yr old fillings will be exploding (his word) sometime soon but there's nothing to be done to prevent this. Oh joy!
I got some cashback in Asda and as I'm standing by the till checking my receipt (me? anal?) the man on the till asks me if he gave me my cash. He had and I told him so and then as a joke said "I missed a trick there - I should have said no!" to which he replied "I only asked you because you looked honest." I've no idea how you look honest but I do my best to be always and my first, immediate instinct was to be truthful. I'm a big believer in what goes around comes around.
I've recently read a really lovely book by Michael Thomas Ford called 'Changing Tides'. I can't quite decide whether the gay romance or the teenage coming of age/getting to know your parents story was the sub-plot but both were nicely done. My only quibble is that the final, major sex scene was so full of purple-prose and euphemisms and metaphores that I really wasn't entirely sure what was going on. I'm only really sure it was a sex scene because the lovers had just taken off each other's clothes and fallen on a bed. I didn't expect it to be explicit but clarity would have been nice. Particularly as in previous scenes unambiguous language (cock) had been used. Anyway I shall try and read some more of his books.
And finally I'm really really really fed up at work at the moment. Some people who do my job in London have been made redundant but are getting two years pay as redundancy money. I just keep thinking if I were offered that it would pay off most of my mortgage and then we could probably manage without my money and the thought of not having that horrible 'I haven't done my homework' feeling each morning is so alluring. Ho hum. Be careful what you wish for and all that.
Spell check doesn't like 'metaphores'. I can't think how else to spell it and none of the suggestions make sense. Strange.
ETA I've remembered something else. 10 days ago it was -7C and there were 6" of snow on the ground. Today it is +8C the daffs are sprouting and there are buds on the magnolia tree.
