Death and taxes

Today I learned that a friend and colleague of mine died yesterday. I’d known him since he was 21 and I was 22, which is to say for 36 years. He introduced me to the novels of Milan Kundera and Tales of the City. We’ve been horribly drunk together several times. We were less close in recent years, but this has still hit me hard. He has teenage children and my heart absolutely breaks for them.
Grief is heavy. It feels like a weight on my chest. It is weighing me down and making me tired.
