Brideshead Revisited - the 2008 film
Aug. 14th, 2009 06:24 pmBack in October when this was in the cinema, I nearly made a difficult and inconvenient journey to Dudley to see this film. Having watched it on Sky, I am extremely glad I didn't bother.
It was inevitable, I think, that it would be a completely different beast to the 1981 television series. They had to tell the story in just over 2 hours, rather than the, I think, 13 hours of the series. So I accept that things had to be cut and changed and scenes and characters merged. And I loved Anthony Andrews' Sebastian so very much, that it was always going to be difficult to accept somebody else in the role. ( But none of this explains why this film was so incredibly awful. )
So, don't bother with this film, read the novel and/or spend all day watching the ITV series instead.
