May. 16th, 2008 04:41 pmThis time last year I was at the Gielgud theatre watching 'Equus'. It was such a brilliant day and the production was marvelous. I really, really wish I could have seen it more than once. I'd like to see the stage version of 'Brief Encounter' that is playing at the moment. I love the film so much - I wonder if I could cope with it not being Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. I saw in yesterday's Times that the run has been extended to Oct 19th so there is a chance I'll get to it at some stage.
On a totally different subject yesterday I was in the car with my son and he was singing a song he had learned at school. It started with something like "Here are all the children shouting in the yard" and repeated it three times getting progressively louder. It became clear that it was some kind of hymn when the next verse was "Here comes Jesus living in our hearts" or at least I think that's what it must have been supposed to have been because having finished singing my son asked very seriously "Mummy, did you know Jesus lives in a heart?". I strongly suspect that the Christian message has gone over his head completely. I do wonder rather what they tell them at school. I have never spoken to him about God or religion of any sort and I think the only time he's ever been to church was at his cousin's wedding (the marriage celebrated at which is now ending in a spectacularly bitter and messy divorce). I wonder if they are assuming a level of knowledge about Christianity that he simply doesn't have. It's not a church school but I suppose all schools have to have assembly don't they?
