Deathly Hallows as two films
Jan. 27th, 2008 09:06 amI think I first heard about this on Pottercast, not sure now but Mrs Phelps was in the P/O and apparently told my husband that the twins have been told that it is on the cards that DH will be made as two films. They are pleased because it's another year or sos work of course. I am horrified. I suppose it worked with 'Kill Bill' but I suspect that that didn't bother me because I wasn't all that crazy about the first one anyway and I imagine that Tarantino wrote the screenplay in two parts to begin with so each was a complete film in itself. The second and third of the Matrix trilogy really showed how this doesn't work though, imo. Although to be fair I thought they were incomprehensible drivel anyway so maybe the being in two parts was irrelevant. The big problem as far I'm concerned with making DH in two parts is where do you split it? How do you not make the first part end in the middle of nowhere? It would need both films to be proper complete stories with beginning middle and end or it would be crap and how do you do that. On Pottercast someone said that they should make one 4 hour film and have an intermission. The example he gave was 'Sound of Music' where I think the first half ends with them singing around Saltzberg in the curtains clothes but of course they did it with Gone with the Wind as well where the first half ended with 'As God is my witness' etc. I suppose you could split DH after Dobby's funeral. That would be an ending of sorts and then you've got that whole incredible day for the second one. Oh well, we'll see.
ETA spell check has just offered me sleazebag as a correction for Saltzberg.
