Sectus

On the whole I enjoyed it but if I’m honest it wasn’t completely what I’d hoped for. I’d hoped (and I knew all along that this was somewhat unrealistic) to meet loads of people and actually get to talk about Harry Potter with other people who love it as much as I do What I did at Sectus in excruciating detail. ) I actually didn’t really meet anyone except [livejournal.com profile] earth_magic. This was worth not meeting quite a few other people, as I’ve been a huge fan of her writing since I first found it and wanted to meet her. more )

So apart from meeting [livejournal.com profile] earth_magic the rest was as follows: -

“Severus Snape : friend or foe? A homeopathic parable of ambiguity.” and more ) “The World Turned Upside Down: Harry Potter and the Queerness of Children’s Literature”. and more ) Draco in DH round tableyet more )

Saturday.

Slept quite badly (excited about the book!) so that when I finally drifted off I overslept! Picked up book from empty Waterstones and started it on the train to London. Went to Eleanor Isolde’s rare slash pairings thing. still more ) I actually contributed one word – I suggested Snape ‘prowled’ rather than ‘checked’ the Astronomy Tower. I am so proud! Sniffs. There was one person there who had been presenting the RPG thing and had said that she played Snape a lot. Her suggestions were really good; she really had Snape’s voice. I shall see if she’s written any fic. If I can face it after DH. Wibbling about DH, no real spoilers )

Then [livejournal.com profile] dacro did a really interesting presentation about character voice – dude! Awsome! Then I had a couple of hours for lunch and read DH. Then I went to “When Harry kissed Draco (and all the muggles saw)” which was really interesting. Extremely thought provoking. Immediately before a midnight showing of the GOF film they’d gone up on stage at the cinema and a wordless (I think) cos(tumed) play wherein H and D duelled then kissed then D gave H a blowjob (mimed of course).
The presentation was a rough re-enactment and then a discussion of why they had done it and the reactions of the audience and the cinema management. Very thought provoking. Half way through my husband phoned me, which was very embarrassing. I hadn’t remembered I’d got my mobile with me much less to turn it off. Though when I apologised to them afterwards the two presenters were very gracious and said that they hadn’t even noticed. and finally )And that was Sectus over for me. There were some really good things on the Sunday but they all had spoiler warnings so I didn’t want to go and also it would have felt too much of an imposition to leave my son with my mum and dad again and also I had a three hour drive home to do.

ETA: Have just remembered my manners. Of course the most important thing is to say THANKYOU VERY MUCH to everyone who made Sectus happen. It must have been an enourmous amount of work and hassle and I really hope that they thought it was worth it and had a fantabulous time.
